The American Bank Note Company honored Numismatist-Syngraphist and researcher Gene Hessler as one of only eight individuals to be awarded custom-made, intaglio-printed bank checks for his personal bank account. The deeply embossed multi-color checks were made for Gene's account at the Mercantile Bank, NA, St. Louis, MO.

There were two different designs produced. Only a limited number remain of these new, unissued checks - this check is of the second design with a beautiful engraving of the Statue of Liberty.
