Lancaster, Ohio, Charter #1241 Serial Number One $50-$100 Uncut Brownback Sheet
The Hocking Valley National Bank of Lancaster, Ohio, Charter 1241.
Unique Serial Number One $50-$100 Uncut Brownback Sheet.
Unlike lower denominations, the $50 and $100 Brownbacks were issued in sheets containing only two notes, one of each denomination. This wonderful item survived as a #1 souvenir by the President of the bank, was acquired by the President and owner of another Ohio National Bank, and was preserved by his family until it was acquired by Currency Quest a short while ago.
No other such serial number one sheets are known to have survived from any bank in the country. Beyond that, we are aware of only two other, "regular numbered" sheets to have ever come to light (from Illinois and Virginia banks). This museum piece could be the capstone of any of a number of collections, either a Large-Size Type Set, National Bank Note Set, Serial Number One Set, etc. Given the record setting seven-figure prices realized for rare currency in public sale over the past year, this sheet may be purchased by one astute individual at what could prove to be a bargain price.
