The Hershey National Bank, Hershey, Pennsylvania, Charter #12688, 1929 Type Two $5, A021614, Very Choice Uncirculated, PMG64-PPQ
Always popular, this bank received its Charter rather late in the National Bank Note era. Only 1929 small-size notes were issued by this bank, the only bank in the small Dauphin County town founded by and named after chocolate magnate and philanthropist Milton Hershey.
This one of the finest notes known on the bank. The serial number places it within the small group of consecutive $5 notes that were saved long ago, with margins that are superior to most of them. In addition, PMG has included on the label the seldom used double superlative of "Exceptional Paper Quality & Embossing", attesting to the amazing quality of this example.
Over the years, a dozen or so Hershey Bank notes, including this one, have claimed the Uncirculated grade. Only half have been confirmed by the two third party grading services. Hershey is one of our favorite towns and this exceptional note is one of our favorite national bank notes.
